The House Wednesday afternoon voted on an alternative Republican budget, one drafted by the conservative Republican Study Committee, which would have balanced the budget within four years by cutting spending to 2008 levels, raising the Social Security retirement age to 70, and cutting Medicare. Nearly all Democrats strategically voted “present” on the bill, forcing Republicans to find enough members to vote “no” so that the tamer Ryan Budget, which was approved Thursday and balances the budget over ten years, would be the official House Republicans’ proposal.
.@darrellissa Yesterday you cast a key vote against a budget that would have balanced in five years. Very disappointing.

The RSC budget failed 132-104, with most Republicans siding with the leadership to vote no. Five California Republicans voted “yes” on the RSC budget. GOP Reps. Dana Rohrabacher, Buck McKeon, Tom McClintock, Doug LaMalfa, and Duncan Hunter all voiced approval for the RSC budget plan.
THANK YOU to Reps. Ducan Hunter @danarohrabacher @buckmckeon @tommcclintock and @douglamalfa for their votes for the RSC budget.#PATRIOTS

All five of them voted in favor of the Ryan Budget as well.
